“There are so many things about the character of Soldier that resonate with me. As the daughter of a single mother, I empathize deeply with her situation. She must balance the love she has for her child with the duty she has to her job and her country.  She is missing out on her daughter’s childhood so that one day, she might be able to provide her with a brighter future.  This is what my mother did for me and what mothers all around the world do every day.  The military has given this Soldier not only a path forward, but also the support of a larger family which she lacks.

I am thrilled to be making my Petite Opera debut in the role of Soldier in a work conceived by my dear friend Sgt. Ben Hilgert. I would like to dedicate these performances to all the men and women who have served our country and to their families.”

The Falling and The Rising marks Ms. Janzen’s debut with Petite Opera Productions.
